The Most Anticipated New Movies in July 2022

July may mean sun and fun, but 2022 also means some executive couch time with a few of the best titles of the year. Movie enthusiasts will see the release of several new films across comedy, drama, action, and fantasy genres.  The whole reason we come to the streamer in the first place, new Netflix series launches are the stuff of gold. This month, we’ve got a host of strange new releases, headlined by one major sci-fi season finale. Here are the best new series coming to Netflix in July 2022.

Netflix is releasing a couple of anticipated movies this month, starting with “Persuasion,” an adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel of the same name that stars Dakota Johnson, Henry Golding, Cosmo Jarvis, and others. The movie will be streaming on July 15.

Persuasion

An adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel, “Persuasion,” stars Dakota Johnson as Anne, a young woman who finds herself in a love triangle with her former romantic partner and a charming new man who may have ulterior motives. The film also stars Henry Golding, Cosmo Jarvis, Richard E. Grant, and others.

Elvis

Elvis will also stream on July 24. Baz Luhrmann hasn’t done a feature film since 2013’s The Great Gatsby, and after nine years, it’s great to see him back with his new film on musical icon Elvis Presley.  Luhrmann released a teaser video of the film last year, where we got brief glimpses of Austin Butler in the titular role. Butler beat out Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, and Harry Styles for the role.

Luhrmann heard about Butler from his stand-out performance in his Broadway debut, The Iceman Cometh. He commented that after the “journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, [he] knew unequivocally that [he] had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”  The movie covers Elvis’ Road to stardom, from dirt-poor singer to global icon, with a keen focus on his complex relationship with his manager Colonel Tom Parker, who Tom Hanks will play.

The Gray Man

Films lovers are also looking into “The Gray Man” release on July 22. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, “The Gray Man” tells the story of the CIA’s most skilled — and anonymous — operative accidentally uncovering dark agency secrets and ultimately getting a bounty put on him. The star-studded film’s cast includes Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, and others.

Girl in the Picture

Up next, we shall have a movie based on a true story. So, if you prefer mystery and documentary movies over everything else, this one’s for you. Skye Borgman, the movie’s director, is famous for her documentary work like Dead Asleep and Abducted in Plain Sight. And now, she is returning with another masterpiece on Netflix. The mysterious death of a woman is followed by her son’s kidnapping but reveals the woman’s true identity. The movie will star Mark Chinnery as Joe Fitzpatrick, Natalie De Vincentiis, and Dana Mackin as Sharon.
