Why Americans Celebrate Thanksgiving and the Best Places to Go for a Memorable Experience

The United States celebrates Thanksgiving yearly, which is now larger than Christmas Day in many households. Traditionally celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, it is a day when friends and family come together to share a meal of turkey and stuffing and offer thanks for all they have.

According to Airlines for America, about 31.6 million international passengers will fly on US airlines in the 12 days before Thanksgiving. Read on for a complete rundown of what you might expect if you’re thinking about taking a trip to the United States to celebrate the occasion for yourself.

How The American Thanksgiving tradition Began?

In the 1860s, while Abraham Lincoln was president, he made the final Thursday of November Thanksgiving Day. During the height of the American Civil War, the announcement was made, and the conflict only escalated from there. Since Franklin D. Roosevelt’s efforts to have Congress ratify it in 1941, the fourth Thursday of November has been the official date of Thanksgiving.  One of the main traditions of Thanksgiving is a food drive to collect donations of food and meals to give to the poor.  Turkey is the centerpiece of the Thanksgiving meal, which is very similar to our Christmas dinner in the UK.
In the United States, Thanksgiving now kicks off the Fall holiday season, which continues with December and January celebrations.  The day after Thanksgiving has been known as “Black Friday” in recent years because it is the day many American retailers offer discounts on various goods. The custom has resulted in broken store windows and documented footage of shoppers brawling over TVs and other electronics. Other countries, such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and Mexico, have also adopted the practice.

The Best Places To Travel In America For Thanksgiving Many professional games of American football are played on Thanksgiving because of their significance in American culture. Since its inception in 1920, the NFL has held Thanksgiving Day games, with the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys hosting each year and a third game hosted by a different team.

Black Friday sales in the United States can be seen in many different types of stores all around the country. Some parts of the store may require extra caution because of the high concentration of ecstatic customers. It’s also a good idea to research whether or not any of the products you plan to export are prohibited by local regulations.

If you want to spend Thanksgiving in the United States, you’ll need an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) that will let you stay for up to ninety days. If you apply at least 72 hours before you want to fly to the United States, you may usually find out if you’ve been authorized within 20 minutes.
